Hi Curly,
Not being around here so much lately, I just picked up on this thread.
On your point about the woman and the photograph....I think you are right.

Otherwise....about the event itself.....Well I was there too, and I have to agree with your view. The whole thing was handled in a very child-like, schoolroom manner. The 'involvement' of the painting and sticking flags into bits of polystyrene and being photographed by the press and being talked down to by 'bits of bairns' who don't even know the area, was all a tad......sign of the times!!!

The main thing that got me about it was the fact that this scheme WILL be something that affects the whole town. The invites only went out to a small area. As you stated, the actual venue was difficult to find....hidden away without any signage.
Most important, in my view, is the fact that whatever they do to the majority of the land under the proposal is going to be of benefit to most of the community. HOWEVER.......the piece of land that almost everyone has come to appreciate, namely the open space across from Coronation St roundabout to give those wonderful views of the river, is subject to obliteration under their proposal.
The horrendous 'bridge/walkway' things that are proposed to go across the road to 'link the town to the river' are an absolute travesty. That short stretch from the end of Commercial Rd up to the Market Place should have protected views.
I think that what I'm trying to say is that the whole issue needs to be put to a more public forum, and done in a more adult manner, than the poor show we attended last week!!

What say you?
