TK Max – warning!

leave a comment »

Stop the big database now.

The world’s biggest theft of data from TJX the American which owns discount fashion retailer TK Max should serve as a warning to Tony Blair’s Labour government as it relentlessly ploughs ahead with it’s plans to build the “big database”.

The theft of credit and debit card details has been kept secret by law enforcement agencies as they attempt to limit the damage and investigate the crime, all of the company’s transactions between December 31st. 2002 and November 23rd. 2003 are affected by the fraud, however most customers will by now have a new card, only the old details have been stolen.

Labour in it’s haste to digitise the whole of our society wants to build and maintain one of the biggest databases the world has ever seen linking all of our National Health and Social Security records, passport and biometric details, vehicle licencing, and a national child register. Additionally a DNA database is being built which includes nearly half a million children under the age of fourteen who have never been charged with a crime. All of these databases will be linked to the National Identity Register.

If a large multinational company can become vulnerable to the fraudulent tactics employed by the computer savvy arch criminals of the modern age, then what chance does a government with a proven track record of IT failures have in securing our personal privacy?

Customers at Curly’s Corner Shop can be fully assured that I am not about to be drawn into Blair’s devilish schemes, there is no tick, no credit, no plastic, and your cheques will be accepted with a current guarantee card and the signature of both of your parents, otherwise it’s CASH ONLY!
