Barbara Lady Chapman
Conservative stalwart dies
I am saddened to learn of the death at the grand age of 92 of Lady Barbara Chapman of Cleadon Village. She was President of Jarrow Conservative Association and a lifleong Tory supporter and stalwart.
I had met her on numerous occasions and found her to be charming, caring, and concerned about the plight of thousands of less well off in this part of Tyneside. She was well known for her charitable benevolence and presided over a number of regional bodies including the St. Clare’s Hospice in Jarrow, many local organisations benefited from her patronage and she was often to be found as the honoured guest opener for fetes and fund raisers.
She will be greatly missed.

That was a very thoughtful post, Curly. She was a wonderful person, greatly respected and she will be sorely missed by a great number of people.
As a young councillor she was always so supportive of me, and I have appreciated her wisdom and encouragement over the years more than I can say.
