I haven’t had a pint at my local South Shields watering hole since Saturday, so I’m unsure of what the current price for a pint of Scotch/heavy/bitter/mild etc. is now, but we all know that Alistair Darling was making it his business to hammer the drinkers in his Budget last week. This came as bit of a shock to drinkers, brewers, publicans, and leisure companies alike, so much so, that one Edinburg publican has decided to bar Alistair Darling from his premises (should he drop in for a quick one when in Edinburgh).
So why not encourage your favourite ‘mein host’ to put this poster in the window too, just to help express feelings, you know. Just click on the thumbnail, then when the picture loads, “right click” and “save as”. It prints out as a nice A4 sized poster.

And yet every single supermarket suddenly has a raft of special offers (Tesco was flogging 18 cans of Carlsberg for £6.50 this morning). At a time when wholesale costs are rising anyway, sticking up beer duty is nothing more than a tax on pleasure.
