The response to the “Big Al” comments
There will be no apology!
I had a very heated exchange on the telephone yesterday involving some very colourful and gratuitous use of the more extreme Anglo Saxon terms of our English language. The upshot of it all is that the caller is adamant that an apology will not be forthcoming, and that he denies being responsible for the posting of comments on this blog accusing me of being a racist and my father of being a Nazi. The caller further asserted that if he has something to say, then he will say it (as I well know) using his real name, and that he does not place comments on this site, or ANY OTHER, using assumed names, aliases, or pseudonyms. I have a recording of the message left on my voicemail (just so that I can refer back to those words, of course.)
He was adamant that the only other people to have access to his home PC are his partner and daughter and that they are not the least bit interested in blogs, and their computer literacy leaves a little to be desired. He stated that at present he is far too busy to spend time posting on blogs or other websites! Having pointed out that his IP address has been used to post the comments, he seems at a loss as to know how to explain it away. I asked him to make use of the links provided in my post and email so that he could satisfy himself that it was indeed his IP address that has been recorded, but I am unaware if he has taken advantage of this facility.
Following on from the “Brenda affair” where the word smear became associated with the use of local South Tyneside blogs, I fear that someone may be willing to revisit this kind of activity, at this point I am not yet ready to consider expensive litigious actions, but my father is not of the same mind. Therefore, I am offering the poster of the “Big Al” comments a final opportunity to make a public apology (in the comments please) for the unwarranted and groundless attack upon myself and my father.
In the mean time I am continuing my investigations into the comments posted here and on other websites from the following IP address 82.39.94.59, to see if the evidence supports the claims made in yesterday’s telephone call.
It could be a long trawl but may prove interesting, I’ll keep you posted.
I read about this whole ordeal that you are going through. I’m very sorry to hear it. Thus far, I’ve been very fortunate to not have had any angry comments THUS FAR.
I’m especially saddened to hear what happened to your friend yesterday, as well as to learn that your Dad was dragged into the whole mess.
