Miliband on EU military policy
Is Miliband sure on the direction of his argument?
South Shields MP and Foreign Secretary David Miliband is backing French moves for greater European security;
“What strikes me about the French priorities for their Presidency is how closely they tie with our own ambitions for the EU, as set out in the Global Europe policy statement last autumn, whether on energy and climate change, migration, near neighbourhood policy, and the next steps on European defence.”
Whilst he acknowledges that this does not mean the creation of a Europen Army outside of the remit of Nato, he ought to show a little more caution in introducing these arguments in Europe, it won’t take the federalists long to latch on to the idea, and then we might see British Forces being led by bureaucrats Brigadiers from Brussels!
