Keane and Keegan
Like chalk and cheese!
I’m quite convinced that Roy keane is moving Sunderland’s football team in the right direction with a lot of effort in strengthening what was a weak defence, yesterday’s signing of George McCartney (pictured) is another major move in piecing together a tight unit that should provide the foundation for a much improved season. McCartney, who we affectionately nicknamed “Ringo” during his last spell at the club has improved after a couple of seasons with West Ham and has developed a good understanding with Anton Ferdinand, who is also a Black cat now, what pleases me most about Keane’s activities over the past few days has been the ruthless nature in which he has dispatched both Paul McShane and Danny Higginbotham whom I have never forgiven for their error prone display which resulted in the loss to Newcastle at St. James’ Park last season!
Meanwhile, up the road the “messiah”, “King Kev” is the subject of intense speculation and rumours this morning that once again he has walked away from the challenge that faced him. Perhaps the relationship between Keegan and beer swilling gambler Mike Ashley is more strained than we thought, neither does it help when Ashley decided to keep the business within the family when he appointed Dennis Wise.
No doubt we will discover later during the day whether Kevin Keegan is staying or going after his meeting with Newcastle’s board yesterday, indications locally suggest that he has already “walked”. The differences between Kevin Keegan and Roy Keane, as most South Shields football supporters recognise, when it comes to a competitive challenge, are like those between chalk and cheese!
Update
Some other local blogger is claiming an exclusive on Keegan’s walkout/sacking – at 16:11??
