Westoe Road saved for shoppers
Car sales planning application refused
I made a post on June 24th of this year where I mentioned the necessity for a planning regulation to prevent South Shields town centre looking more like a shanty town on the edge of Harare. This followed my concerns that the owners of Supertech in Fowler Street had set up a car sales operation at the Junction of Westoe Road and Robinson Street, it was incongruous, totally out of character, and did not sit sympathetically within it’s immediate environment.
I felt strongly that our town centre shopping areas should not be degraded in this fashion, particularly as there are car sales rooms standing empty at the rear of Fowler Street.
Supertech were operating the car sales business without the necessary planning permission and therefore submitted an application to South Tyneside Council for retrospective permission. I am happy to note that the officers dealing with the application have made a final decision to refuse the application, and at present there has been no appeal.
My thanks go to Cllr. Khan for voicing my objections and keeping me updated on the position.

I guess there is a limited period during which they can launch an appeal.

Hope your headline to this post is correct. I see that the place on the corner of Derby Terrace which formerly was a furniture shop, then an ironing service has now transformed into “Shahhomes”, a letting agency. What’s wrong with Fowler Street? Is there nowhere left down there for the Property Market? Looks like someone in the Town Hall is just letting this town go to ruin.
