Heffer on the attack

Simon Heffer is a journalist at The Daily Telegraph, why he isn’t chief strategist for the Conservative Party is beyond me. He seems to have captured the public mood far better than Her Majesty’s Opposition.

Can I recommend reading the full article.

The Conservative Party image changed with the election of David Cameron, however too often the accusation has been that it changed to Blair/Brown MKll without the Mandeson to pull the media strings! As voters we deserve real alternative policies to those offered by the government, we deserve clear cut black and white choices, we deserve at least two (or three) comprehensive visions of the future, we deserve to be treated as adults who are able to make a choice. Trouble is you cannot make that choice too easily when everyone is crowded into the middle of the road trying to outshout each other with virtually the same message!

There is still time for the Conservative Party to rediscover what it means to have an economic and social policy of it’s own, time for it to look really different from NuLabour (and not just an image makeover), but time is running out.

Perhaps the announcement that the Tories will not be following Brown’s expenditure plans may signal a change in approach, however it is only a small compensation, they are after all only announcing a reduction in the rate of spending increases!
