Christmas lights banned?
South Tyneside Homes employee goes maverick
An employee of South Tyneside Homes appears to have gone “rogue” in telling Anderson Street resident Dorothy Glenn of South Shields to remove her Christmas decorations in case they offend her neighbours.
Since when did our council operate a discriminatory policy against Christmas? Has anyone identified this person yet?
Will disciplinary action be taken, or at the very least will a counselling session take place with this maverick employee?

I remember, this used to be a free country. WTF happened?

According to the Shields Gazette the lady received an apology from some spokesperson from South Tyneside Homes and not the person who passed the remark in the first place. We might just be lucky – perhaps he has been sacked. Would someone please care to tell us what has happened in the disciplinary chain? This “fear” of offending someone because of our wish to carry on with our lives in the way we have always done, puzzles me. I note that the soldiers in Afghanistan, recently, were not afraid to erect a cross ( a Christian symbol) in the middle of the war zone where they are fighting the Taliban, after the death of their comrades. In any case, I thought it was the ethnic minorities coming into this country who were supposed to integrate with us – not the other way around.

No apology from the person concerned because they don’t know who he is or even if he is an employee. Therefore no discipline either. The alleged incident happened back in November and South Tyneside Homes are merely covering their backs by issuing an apology.
It could have been anyone who made the remarks…a passer by ‘having a laugh’ at the lady’s expense. Why has it suddenly emerged now? Lot of unanswered questions methinks.
