Officials of the European Commission in Brussels expressed concern about the threat to shut down transit pipelines linking Siberian gasfields to Europe that cross Ukraine. “It’s been happening every winter since 2005,” a Commission spokesman said.
And what, exactly, have we done about securing energy supplies from other sources?
When winter arrives in South Shields with a chilly blast from Siberia, we might be glad that a small country like the Ukraine did as it was told, paid it’s bills, and toed the (political) line, just so we can stay warm.
