Council case collapses over gravestones
South Tyneside Council to reinstate graveyards
This is exceptionally good news for those who frequent our cemeteries in South Tyneside, the wanton destruction and official vandalism will come to an end. The final resting places of so many of our citizens from so many differing faiths deserved to be an oasis of calm and reflection for their visitors, not something resembling a war zone or a builders yard.
I look forward to the day when Harton and Westoe cemeteries once again look well kept, neat, and tidy, along with our graveyards in Jarrow and Hebburn, places where relatives can reflect without feeling further pain.
I’m glad someone was listening, the health and safety reviews were far too over zealous!

I’m sure I remember seeing on a local TV news program a few years back, video of builders scaffolding cut into small enough pieces to have one upright banged into the ground then a very short horizontal with clamp onto stone to stop them falling over and killing people and this was the whole grave yard at a cost of thousands. That was just one case of many that have been in the MSM reporting on the lunatic elf-n-safety mental attempts to save us all from certain death at the grave side even though I doubt if there has ever been a reported case of near death experience due to tomb stone failure in the past two centuries. Why have most of population suddenly gone mad, is it something Labour are putting in the water?

This crack pot idea caught on in my area (Lancashire) What are the stats? Has anyone ever been trapped/killed under a gravestone?

I notice the Shields Gazette fails to acknowledge your contribution to the campaign, shame on them!
