Being Independent
Some thanks would be appreciated – thanks.
One of the wonderful things about being an independent councillor in South Tyneside is that you can say some beautiful things and get away with it, for instance take Cllr. Ahmed Khan’s remarks reported in the Shields Gazette about parking charges in South Shields Town Centre :
Independent Ahmed Khan described as “total nonsense” moves for new charged parking spaces in South Shields Market Place, adding: “We need to be more imaginative with the use of charges.
“Paying 70p or £1 just to pop into town to buy a pair of shoes, that’s a lot of money.”
Coun Khan suggested free parking for an initial period of time, followed by higher charges for anyone parking all day.
One could possibly claim that this ‘policy’ was independently thought of, on the other hand I could claim it is pure plagiarism and that the Independent Alliance is simply devoid of any practical policies of it’s own and now needs to go stealing from others. It’s a point worth discussing, don’t you think?
It’s not as though it’s something I have not discussed in the past, on more than one occasion, or another, since last summer.
If I now thank Cllr. Khan for publicly raising and promoting my ideas inside South Shields Town Hall, will the Independent Alliance, their Leader (Jane Branley), or Cllr. Khan, publicly thank me for writing their very first positive policy?
It is, after all a very good idea, even if I say so myself!

Well they say “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”
In our town centre you can park for free for two hours after that if you don’t move your slapped with a parking fine.
