Karen Allen is one of us.

I’ve just had a very fruitful meeting this afternoon with South Shields Prospective Parliamentary Conservative Candidate Karen Allen, who I found to be very much one of us. She is warm, friendly, and despite years of working in London retains a hint of a Geordie accent which is just dying to burst out.

Without doubt she is an intelligent lady who has some bright ideas about her home town and very real concerns over the current economic landscape and how we can regenerate the region and create new jobs. She share’s many of our concerns at the apparent progress of neighbouring towns and wishes to see South Shields catching up and taking advantage of every opportunity that presents itself.

She knows she faces an uphill task in attempting to unseat David Miliband, the Foreign Secretary, she is under no illusions about the enormity of the task ahead, but I’m positive that she will give a good account of herself at the next election.

She looks like one of us, talks like one of us, understands South Shields like one of us, and has the same easy going good natured hospitality of born and bred Sanddancers. Karen will be meeting many of us as the months tick away towards the election and we will get to know more about her and get to like her ideas on how best to represent the aspirations of South Shields folks. This weekend she has been at McNulty’s Aker Marine in Commercial Road with Martin Callannan, one of our Euro MPs, supporting their campaign to win more contracts and secure north-east jobs, the photo shoot was flattering, yes?

Karen Allen is certainly not a robotic policy wonk!
