Over 1,700 petition PM for Tarceva

with one comment

Jenkyns’ fight goes to No. 10.

I have previously posted my thoughts on the disgraceful refusal to allow Tarceva to be prescribed to my friend Jimmy Jenkyns of South Shields, both here and here, despite it being available in Scotland. Jimmy’s wife Deanne has set up a website where you can express your support for their plight and the position of others caught in this dreadful nightmare. The site at www.lc-action4life.co.uk also has a message board where other sufferers and supporters can gather and share their experiences, and provide comforting support to each other.

Jimmy has now borrowed £1,600 for a course of 30 tablets of Tarceva, hoping that the drug produces a benefit that will be readily seen to the South Tyneside Primary Care Trust as worthwhile. He hopes that they will reverse their decision not to fund a prescription for him, perhaps some public pressure may help?

There is also a petition on the No. 10 website that you can sign, it has already been signed by over 1,700 supporters calling on the government to to make Tarceva (Erlotinib) available on the NHS by prescription throughout England, as it is in Scotland. Please, if you can, add your support to this petition (but be aware that your email address will be harvested and used to promote government policy in your inbox.)
