Sunderland afc badge£1m. fee for Aberdeen skipper

Sunderland continue to build from the back to bolster a defence  left short of quality after the return of the Manchester United loanees Evans and Simpson. The club announced this afternoon the £1m transfer of 28 year old Scottish International centre back Russell Anderson from Aberdeen where he enjoyed a ten year plus career.

Roy Keane had this to say;

“I’m delighted we’ve secured Russell’s signature, naturally we’ve had him watched a number of times and know all about the kind of player and character he is. He has a lot of experience and will provide competition for places at the back.”

Anderson, the Don’s skipper had this to say about his move to Sunderland;

“I’m hugely excited, it’s a big club going places and it’s exciting times to be coming here so I’m certainly looking forward to the challenge ahead. It’s all happened quite quickly. I’ve been on holiday and I took a call from my agent last week saying Sunderland were interested, then it was just a case of seeing if the two clubs could agree a fee.”

Keane has his priorities right in building a defensive unit first, it’s half the battle won if you can restrict or stop the opposition from scoring goals.Keane will be looking at other areas where the team will need strengthening too, his next priorities though, are likely to be up front where the chase for David Nugent continues.

  1. I think we have got a steal with Russell Anderson. His form seem solid enough, if he does the same for Sunderland as Aberdeen, I don’t see any worries.>

  2. Mr.Keane has done us proud so far and I don’t see any reason yet’ to go against his judgement. The short spell he had at Celtic is proving a most valued bit of experience. I for one will back him to the hilt, till there comes a time that Managerment does not agree with him’ I say he will be a gem. Just look at his Mentor.

  3. I cannot think of a single signing last year where Keane was involved that went wrong. All of Keane’s players were well researched with full character assessments and they all came good, I see no reason why Anderson or Halford should not prove to be different.
