The Mouth of the Tyne Festival

Third festival wows crowds!

The third Mouth of the Tyne Festival got itself officially underway this morning with a lively and colourful musical procession along Sea Road, South Shields this morning. The two day free extravaganza is organised as a partnership between North and South Tyneside Councils along with Newcastle and Gateshead Councils and North East England, and brings a wide range of entertainment staged publicly in Tynemouth and South Shields.

This morning’s opening ceremony drew huge crowds to the sea front to see a fantastic procession that made it’s way from Gypsies Green Stadium to the Bents Park, where concerts would be taking place for the rest of the afternoon before another speciality parade at 9.30 p.m. this evening. The Bents Park is also decorated with an artistic installation of white flags which look superb!

You can be sure that I’ll be the first to bring you pictures and video of both of these parades!

As well as thronging to the sea front the festival has dragged visitors from all over Tyneside and beyond to sample the delights of South Shields. Market Traders were enjoying bumber trade today as crowds made their way from the ferry landing, through the Market Place and on through King Street towards the sea front parks. There was also a very well attended maritime display at Mill Dam.

My camera was very busy this morning, and you will be able to see further pictures of the evnts during next week in South Shields Daily Photo. Please click on the thumbnails to enlarge.
