The Forbidden Corner

A superb folly.

We really enjoyed ourselves yesterday afternoon, I took “Junior” and one of his school chums to a “folly” near Leyburn in North Yorkshire called The Forbidden Corner, a place which gives the appearance of former stately grandeur steeped in history yet it is relatively new, built only twenty years ago. It was recommended to me by a friend who works with handicapped children at a special school in Gateshead, and he enjoyed it as much as the children when they were there last month.

A “folly” is something which is false and designed to deceive, and judging by the post at The Northern Herald yesterday, that just about sums up the standard of opposition from the non Labour parties within South Tyneside Council these days. A whole six week cycle goes by and not a single question was raised, not a single report spoken to, and everything went through on the nod!

I note too from Peter’s pictures a lot of familiar faces amongst the Gypsies Green protesters, one hopes that these people will be as vociferous within the council chamber (should they be elected) as they are outside, – if they follow their leaders we will be doomed. What was more noticeable was the absence of any decent sized proportions of under thirties amongst the crowd, the very generation whose sons and daughters may live to see the benefits of an upturn in our local economy once the whole of the foreshore is regenerated.

It is a plan for the future.

  1. Yes maybe the younger ones were economically active that day..I think like the Academy of Light it’s a sector of society that don’t see the Bigger Picture..remember the Foreshaw before the 1980’s…men and women taking their dogs to have their bowels evacuated and little else going on,,,as with all attractions it’s case of “move over Catherine and tell James Kirkup the news”
Maybe that’s the answer …lets go for the Pink Pound and use JK as an “out person” to change the emphasis..no doubt that will have a few choking on their porridge when we become as place for GAYS and Lesbians to enjoy their hols …
