No Christmas joy for “robbed” pensioners

Brown vetoes recovery plan.

I have blogged numerous times over the past couple of years about Gordon Brown’s savage theft of future pensions and his failure to help or compensate those who have lost out, see here, here, and here for examples.

We now learn today that Prime Minister Brown intends to renege on another promise, once more breaking his trusts not only with his his people but also with his Cabinet, as he plans to veto the previously promised £725million to help more than 125,000 workers whose company pension schemes collapsed. Earlier this year, pensions minister Mike O’Brien promised that the Government would come up with a rescue package. He is now said to be “mortified” that he will have to break his word as the result of Mr Brown’s refusal.

Tory spokesman Chris Grayling said:

“These people have been left facing real hardship in retirement as a result of Gordon Brown’s pensions failings over the past ten years. If he is now deliberately blocking a package that could help rescue their retirement it is an absolute betrayal.”

Yet he can instantly find over £30bn to bail out the Northern Wreck!

“Bah, humbug!”, said Scrooge.

  1. I too get fed up with certain issues needing cash, i.e. education, health service and they don’t get it. Suddenly we hear of several millions being found to support x, y or z and it’s usually abroad. I say charity begins at home, quite honestly. Once things are suitably fixed, then of course help others.
