David Miliband, Klingon

Capt. Jean Luc Picard to give South Shields lecture

South Shields MP and Foreign Secretary David Miliband has invited the actor, and lifelong Labour supporter Patrick Stewart to deliver the annual South Shields pantomime lecture in November, I can hear them shouting “he’s behind you” already!

Should we prepare a landing spot at the Mill Dam to enable them both to be beamed down, and have it heavily policed to avoid an attack by Klingons (or Trekkies)?

Does Miliband approach the Prime Minister at the Cabinet table and say “beam me up Scotty”?

Honestly I’m trying to take this seriously.

  1. That’s wild talk Curly. You’ll open up the whole ‘Tekkies’ vs ‘Trekkers’ debate. If I was going to compare Miliband to a Star Trek character, I would go for Data the android: huge brain, without emotion, prone going off into rambling technical drivel, and desperately wanting to understand the human condition. Oh, and he looks so pasty he seems artificial.

  2. I’m not sure I’d entirely agree with the first comment: Data can be interesting, and useful too. I don’t think either of those characteristics applies to Milibland, from what I’ve seen of him so far…

By the way, I didn’t know Stewart was a life-long Labour supporter: he comes across as brighter than that.

Come November, what they will need at the lecture venue is a good supply of tea — Earl Grey, hot.
