Nationalise Vauxhall?

with 2 comments

Don’t make me laugh.

Never owned one, never wanted to own one, and the kids around here in South Shields would be able to tell you that they could get inside of an old Cavalier, or Vectra inside 90 seconds, and a Corsa was little better than a wooden bogey with a tin top only fit for boy racers to dress up like an over muscled “Stretch Armstrong”. So I almost laughed when I saw this post at Liberal Conspiracy calling for the ailing GM offshoot to be nationalised, I think Osler has had his brain transported back to 1975 for an ugly experiment.

Yes I guffawed a bit, then laughed even more when I saw Dizzy’s response, some of these folks just don’t get it when it comes to ‘big bail outs’ and ‘social ownership’ etc. This isn’t what the motor industry needs, it needs customers and you only get them when you make attractive, feel good, affordable, and desirable products. There is little point at all in producing goods that people do not want to buy, that should have been one of the most important lessons to be learned from the past.

You would have thought that Vauxhall, at least, might have worked that out for themselves by now.

  2. Do individuals atill actually go out and buy Vauxhalls? I thought the overwhelming bulk of their revenue was generated through fleet sales.
