Miliband knows the game is up

with one comment

South Shields MP and Foreign Secretary unusually downbeat in radio interview.

David Miliband has been talking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme this morning and told us that the New Labour experiment is only half completed (after twelve years) and that Labour MPs had come to a “settled view” that they don’t want a new leader. So that’s it then, they are resigned to their fates, he also admitted that the odds are stacked against Labour winning the next election, refused to be drawn on whether he was prepared to resign along with James Purnell and in a roundabout way admitted that his own ambitions have turned to dust by saying that Alan Johnson is the leading candidate to take over after Brown. He also admitted that one of the first people he had spoken to after Purnell’s resignation was the Lord High Almighty Everything in Sight, Mandelson, well, you may as well pay homage to the new de facto leader!

I thought Mr. Miliband was unusually downbeat, but I guess that’s understandable after your party has just had it’s worst electoral showing for the best part of a century.

We have to ask ourselves in other areas – on political reform, on public services and on international policy – what’s the equivalent of unconventional thinking? What’s the equivalent of owning two-thirds of Lloyds Bank?

So, in the spirit of NuLieBore comradeship, I’ve come up with some ideas for him.
