Freeze on school meal prices

South Tyneside considers helping parents

This is welcome good news for parents, especially those who have more than one child taking school meals every day, at a time when the Retail Prices Index is negative and showing signs of deflation it would have been an insult to apply the customary annual increase, moreso at a time when greater numbers of South Tyneside workers are facing the misery of unemployment.

It looks like Labour councillors are acutely aware of their party’s increasing unpopularity and are determined to put distance between themselves and the political centre at Westminster.
