lord mandelsonMandelson the de facto leader

Now it appears that he’s taken over the reigns for higher education too!

I wonder if he’s ever considered  (having dumbed down A levels and increased the number of university places available) that some people might not actually want to go to these places. Some might really like to start work in a job that they can enjoy, join the armed services, learn a trade, or simply do something which does not require a degree. Throughout my fifty years on this planet I’ve never met a working class person from the north-east who failed to get on life through lack of effort, I know scores, hundreds in fact, who have university degrees, some were products of selective education some were products of the comprehensive system, yet they have all achieved much of what they wanted.

I wonder if this is not yet just another NuLab plan to keep as many young people in education for as long as possible without the danger of inflating the unemployed figures?
