Milband on terror

‘Yes, there are circumstances in which it is justifiable, and yes, there are circumstances in which it is effective.’

Seems like a very odd message for the South Shields MP and Foreign Secretary to convey, for a man in his position don’t you think?

So, he thought that the apartheid regime in South Africa looked as though it might last forever, therefore the gun, the bullet, and the murderers were justified in bringing it to an end by waging a war of terror. Seems to me that many people thought that communism might last forever in eastern Europe – Russia and it’s client states had some the world’s best and most sophisticated state apparatus for keeping control of it’s citizens (something which David’s father must surely have spoken about), yet their liberation came not at the hands of terrorists but as a result of political action and a yearning for freedom from the yolk of the state. A situation that those suffering of hunger in Zimbabwe must yearn for too.

Yes, I think Mr. Miliband’s comments are ill judged too, particularly for a man who is charged with promoting the policies of western liberal democracy from the shiny halls of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. But there again, he was remarkably ambivalent in his dealings with Robert Mugabe, and is less than willing to promote the halting of torture amongst some of our “friendlier” nations, no he’d far rather allow the EU to formulate a plan and a policy and ensure that international integration and dialogue form the basis for social reform and renewal in the new age of diplomacy.

Why bother leading from the front if you think that terror is justified, you may as well just take a back seat.

  1. Seems like just the kind of story the Tories were waiting for to distract interest away from the Hannan NHS embarassment.

  2. Joe Slovo was a family friend of the Millibands, and a regular visitor, all Marxists together, they have not changed, just biding their time.
