Guido’s expose followed up by The Times

After reading this, I suppose that this news should come as no surprise, it should also come as no surprise that the politicians at the centre of this tangled web should decide to treat us all as fools.

Nick Day, a former MI5 agent and the chief executive of the business intelligence firm Diligence said:

“Any government has the overwhelming priority of ensuring the economic wellbeing of the country, protecting national security and furthering bilateral relations. This is clearly what Britain was doing in this case — and there is nothing wrong with it. The problem is that governments do not always feel able to tell people the whole truth.”

That, dear friends, is the nub of the problem, and as usual it is not the original offence that causes the outrage but the attempts to whitewash, gloss over the truth, misinform, and generally not be “up front” about the whole thing that leaves the stink behind. By side stepping the issue rather than facing it head on with a reasoned explanation, they continue to treat us like mugs and fools.

This story still has legs, and there will be casualties.
