Miliband again turns blind eye to human rights

diego garciaBritish Indian Ocean Territory “consultation”

So the Foreign Secretary and South Shields MP wants to help create a marine conservation area around the Chagos Archipelago, that’s one way of keeping any sea borne threat away from the American secret prison base at Diego Garcia! He also wants to listen to the views of Chagossian communities whilst at the same time turning a blind eye and a deaf ear to the hundreds who are not being allowed to return to the lands of their birth – how nice of him!

  4. Curly – an excellent post, raising a very important issue.

If you haven’t already done so, I’d really urge you to submit a response to the FCO’s “consultation” on this marine protected area. Please contact me if you’d like more details. (And if you could publicise these details on your blog, so much the better!).

The scientific community is queueing up to offer its unqualified support for the creation of this marine reserve and so its up to the rest of us to remind the government that the Chagossians still exist and still want to return home. They have a clear agenda to bury the Chagossians’ campaign under all platitudes about environmental protection; its our job to stop them!

Please check out the UK Chagos Support Association’s webite and blog if you have the time. We are trying to galvanise as much support as possible for the Chagossians’ point of view.

    Thanks
    Peter
