Leader's debate

It will make Alan Hansen worth listening to!

Honestly, after all of the months of political wrangling they really are looking like a bunch who couldn’t organise the proverbial annual works outing to the brewery!

It comes as it emerged plans for the three US-style debates, which are pencilled in for three consecutive Wednesdays before polling day, have been thrown off course by a highlight of the sporting calendar .

If, as expected, the election is called on May 6, the second and third dates would clash with Champions League football semi-finals.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal could be in action on those evenings, making broadcasters reluctant to schedule the debates against them.

Gordon Brown’s live election debates with David Cameron were thrown into doubt today because of ludicrous demands by both parties that studio audiences should sit in silence throughout.

Which will make the whole business every bit as engrossing and noisy as a home game at The Emirates (which is the preferred venue of choice for South Shields MP and Foreign Secretary David Miliband).
