Indy Spinning

Spinning around

Indies fail to keep up with their own spin.

Sometimes our local politicians make me giggle as they attempt to put the best gloss on things, and the recent by election in the Primrose ward of South Tyneside has provided one of those golden moments when a small Independent party attempt to do a spin job that Lord Mandelson might be proud of.

Having taken third place in the by election and heavily outnumbered by BNP votes they make two lovely statements on their website to bring a chuckle, they open the piece with this statement:

In January 2010 Aaron Luke came forward to be the Independent Alliance candidate in the Primrose ward in the May 2010 elections.

Which was utter tosh and nonsense because only the month before they said:

The South Tyneside Independents are delighted to announce to the residents of Primrose that Aaron Luke will be standing as the Independent Alliance candidate in the Primrose ward at the May 2010 local elections.

Remarkable really, when you cannot remember what you published just a few weeks earlier, and then to cap it off they single handedly claim the credit for preventing the BNP from taking the seat from Labour:

Well, we took votes from the BNP and stopped them from gaining the seat! If nothing else this was a triumph.

I guess the Conservative, the Lib-Dem candidate, and the other Independent candidate had no part in garnering a few votes from the BNP then? Even then, you would have to be following a fairly strong racist and national socialist path to be taking votes from the BNP, which makes the claim even more astounding!

Then their “editor” follows that by saying:

We have established Aaron Luke as a candidate for the May 2010 local election.

Hang on, hadn’t you established that back in December?

I think they’d best leave the spinning to the boys down in Westminster, if they cannot remember what they are spouting from one month to the next, don’t you?

  1. In spite of all the efforts of the Alliance and other candidates the BNP largely retained their vote. More and more people in my ward, Primrose are waking up to the fact that the only alternitive to Labour is the BNP.In one of the Alliance election flyers they stated that they wanted car parking charges introduced into Jarrow, a real vote winner that?,Also the false allegations made about the BNP terror tactics are just what you can expect from a party that has Ahmaed Khan as a member. They say they were unable to obtain a photo of the car alledgedly following them, I question that in they in this day and age must have had mobile phones with them and even I can take a photo with my phone.

    • I guess it’s like the fog of war, the first victim is always the truth.

  2. Jarrow Peter, Are we talking about the’Alliance'(South Shields Party) or the proper Independent?
In defence of David Rice he clearly stated in his leaflet, that the present Labour Cllrs had in fact voted for charging residents for Parking in central Jarrow.
Fact two Peter, 11 leaflets in one shape or form from the BNP, how many man hours? I would say your best chance has gone so Auf Wiedersehen.

  3. I understand that the BNP candidate lives in the heart of South Shields – that wasn’t mentioned in his leaflets.

Don’t think people in Primrose would take kindly to a bloke from another area travelling to Jarrow to take their jobs. He should practice what he preaches and only stand in West Park.
