Thanks for keeping me in there!

The UK blogosphere has had it’s annual vote via Iain Dale’s Diary and Total Politics magazine has now published the updated Guide To British Political Blogging, which you can now download in .pdf format.

Before I go any further let me state that I am not a member of the Conservative Party, or any other political party, (never have been for over twenty years) however there is no getting away from my right of centre viewpoint. One reason that I have not rejoined a party is my belief that you should strive to participate and give a little more than what you take, in terms of time, commitment, and money, and I’ve been short of all three of them!

Therefore as this past year has seen another increase in the amount of bloggers within the UK, from all sides of the political divides, it is gratifying to note that you, my readers, have voted to keep me within the top 100 right of centre bloggers in the country. I thought (honestly) that this blog would simply disappear off the political radar because of the growth in other very readable blogs, I also though it’s high proportion of local content might count against me, so I am a little surprised, but thanks anyway.

More interestingly is the position of Curly’s Corner Shop in the Wikio list where I sit at No. 28 in the UK, this list reflects the amount of work that goes into a blog, and the quality of it’s content as mirrored by the number of links to that content from other bloggers and websites.

The position of a blog in the Wikio ranking depends
on the number and weight of the incoming links from
other blogs. These links are dynamic, which means that
they are backlinks or links found within articles.
Blogrolls are not taken into account and Wikio only
counts links from the last 120 days. The weight of a
link depends on the linking blog’s position in the Wikio
ranking. The weight of a link from a top blog is greater
than that of a link from a blog that is less well ranked.

As well as driving traffic, backlinks and article links build “virtual friendships” and mutually shared readers, and if your content is below par, others will not be interested in linking to it. So if you are a new blogger it’s a good idea to get around other higher ranked blogs and participate as fully as you can afford to, those comments that you place will eventually start sending visitors to your own site.
